Estimating Sierra Leone’s Aggregate Import Demand Function Under Binding Foreign Exchange

چکیده
The primary objective was to evaluate the extent which foreign exchange restraints import demand in Sierra Leone. Using time series data from 1980 2020, this study determined Leone's function by including constraints a structural model developed Emran and Shilpi (2010). compensated for both short-run long-run links employing an ARDL bounds-testing technique with error-correcting mechanism. result showed that only presence of relationship between domestic consumption supported empirical evidence. In short run, consumption, scarcity premium, trade liberalization were found be significant predictors actual demand. However, long significant. Typically considered as key determinants demand, real effective rates premiums insignificant term. Therefore, indicates Leone has no short-term constraints. This could partially explained Bank strategy over years providing currency private sector assist importation essential goods. finding is not constrained shortage currency.

Estimating Aggregate Import-Demand Function for Nigeria Revisited
This study estimates the aggregate import demand function for Nigeria for the period of 1980 2010. Cointegration approach was implemented. While the error correction term in the estimated VEC model was evaluated for long run causal relationship, the short term coefficients were gauged for short term causal relationship between the explained and the explanatory variables. Results indicate: (i) t...
متن کاملAn Aggregate Import Demand Function for India: A Cointegration Analysis
This paper investigates the behaviour of Indian aggregate imports during the period 1971-1995. In our empirical analysis of the aggregate import demand function for India, cointegration and error correction modelling approaches have been used. In the aggregate import demand function for India, import volume is found to be cointegrated with relative import price and real GDP. Our econometric est...

متن کاملHedging Demand and Foreign Exchange Risk Premia
This paper develops and tests a model of unobservable risk premia in the foreign exchange market. Risk premia in our model are driven by non-marketable income shocks which risk averse agents attempt to hedge by trading foreign currency. We test our model using data on hedging demand in currency futures and find that our proxy for risk premia explains approximately 45 percent of the variation in...
متن کاملExchange Rate Response of Import Demand in Pakistan
Exchange rate policy has assumed an added importance in recent years due to changing global economic conditions. This paper has examined the foreign exchange reserves, real and effective exchange rate response of imports demand in Pakistan using both classical and time series econometrics approaches. The real depreciation of the exchange rate has been found to have dampening impact on import de...
